For several years, Rycote InVision mounts have been available for narrow-barrelled shotgun and stick microphones in broadcast and videography applications, but not until 2010, and the release of the striking Universal Studio Mount (USM) was there an InVision shock-mount capable of accommodating large-diaphragm recording microphones for use in recording studios.
Like the other InVision mounts, the USM VB-L makes use of Rycote's patented vibration-resistant Lyre mount, but on this mount the W-shaped Lyres are placed around a central mounting ring with adjustable fasteners, allowing the USM to accommodate microphone between 55 and 68 mm in diameter, and up to 450 grammes in weight vertically mounted (250 gr. horizontally mounted).
The Rycote USM updates the concept of the microphone suspension for the 21st century, completely omitting any elasticated parts and using modern materials to create a virtually indestructible shock-mount with a performance that far outstrips that of the humble 'cat's cradle' suspension. In controlled tests at the Rycote factory, the USM provided up to twice the isolation of traditional microphone suspension systems.

USB VB-L for a Shure MV7
I didn't like the stock u-bracket yoke for my MV7 so I started looking around for different mounts. I quickly realized that most of what's available is just junk. I settled on this and I love it. Easy to install and holds the mic very securely. Excellent shock mount performance. Yes, it's just a fancy piece of plastic with a threaded connection and some screw holders, but it's really nice. Very happy with it so far. If you're looking for a nice mount for a large barrel mic, look no further. This is the one you want.
For what it's worth, the outside rubber pieces on mine were black, not red as shown in many pictures. I actually prefer the black so I was happy about that.
